Margaret Park is a professional fisher based at South West Rocks on the NSW mid north coast. Endorsed in the NSW Estuary Fishery since 2006, Margaret catches beach worms from ocean beaches to supply local bait for Australia’s east coast amateur fishers.
Margaret has extensive experience working in the NSW Ocean Hauling Fishery in NSW and Queensland, where she participated in important research projects that helped to improve best practice in the fishery.
Margaret is a key organiser of the Loaves and Fishes Barbeque, held at South West Rocks and supported by OceanWatch Australia. Since 2011, ‘Loaves and Fishes’ has become an annual community activity held on Good Friday. The day involves a seafood barbeque caught, processed and cooked for the masses by local professional fishermen.
Held at the picturesque South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club, local musicians provide the backdrop to an educational and mouth watering occasion. The day provides the community with photographic displays and information, providing a platform to improve community understanding and taste for responsible and sustainable local seafood. The activity in parallel supports the community, with funds raised donated to the Surf Club to support their activities in providing a safe beach environment for the community.
Margaret is very proud to be recognised as an OceanWatch Master Fisherman.
